Weeks of teaching middle school kids about violence prevention / STD Protection / CDV / Etc....pushed my patientce to the absolute edge and promopted me to start an editorial letter to the editor.

Working for the Justice Dept, I completely support programs that enable individuals -- job training, GED help, reduced day care fees so single parents can afford to work, financial aid, etc. What I am tired of are program designed to disable indiviudals --- welfare, free health insurance to those who are not in true need, and food stamps.

I find it disgusting that nearly 20 percent of pay is used to support the health insurance of those who choose to not provide for themselves. Whatapos;s more ironic, is that the state supplied health insurance in SC is actually better than my BlueCross, and I WORK FOR THE STATE. Now, donapos;t get me wrong, those who are trully disabled and need assitance should be helped, but the woman who has 5 kids from 5 fathers (3 who are jailed) and does not work should not be given free housing, food and health care. Whatapos;s worse, is that we encourage this behavior by a sliding scale -- for every kid, she gets more. I may be getting jaded, but Iapos;m tired of seeing this. Iapos;m tired of seeing my friends, who work hard, struggle to pay soaring health insurance costs so they can provide for 10 families who are not capable.

Since we are not a socialist state, I donapos;t see the logic behind this thinking of "free healthcare for all." I really beleive that if people were not taxed as heavily, they would be more apt to donate to help those in need.

My friend and I were talking about this yesterday (he completely supports high taxes and free healthcare) and beleives that humans are to greedy to actually have my theory of "let the individual donate" to actually work." Maybe I am still naive, but I truly beleive that if the government laxed the taxation, people would group together and provide for the services that are necessary, on their own accord. Not to toot our horn, but the Red Cross, a volunteer agency, has been around since the Civil War in this country, and relies heavily on donations.

Whew..... I need sleeep.
Iapos;ve spent half the morning buried in paperwork, 1/3 teaching, and the rest of the afternoon in court. Followed by packing of the shoes. Yes, Chris and I have decided to move in together. And, since he is tied to his farm, I am moving in with him. Really, this is a huge change for me. I havenapos;t had a serious relationship in 2.5 years, and feel so happy and blessed to have Chris in my life. He is kind, supportive, funny, and laughs at my bad Monty Python impersoniations.
